Indeed! Way too much baby still in THAT bathwater! I often take these
answers as unhelpful. as if, since I didn't know how to configure one
prgram right, so I'm going to know how to configure another one correctly.
Often what's needed is about 2 more lines of configuration on the current
package (especialy if it's something like sendmail or Apache), and it's RIGHT,
and WORKING, and the concepts are proven. Reinstalling an earlier version,
or switching to another package completely is not only frustrating (since the
original idea was often NOT learned), but also wasteful of what's already
understood, and disruptive (considering the netwrok of depenencies that
exist among packages).

Some people feel it is folly to rewrite working systems in a different
programming language, and I agree (there has to be a really compelling case
made). I think of this as: "We didn't like how that book was written, so lets'
translate it into French and read that version". Similarly, when switching
packages due to some configuration nit, I get the feeling that "Gee, we didn't
like the way World War II endined in That Book, let's buy another and see if
it's better!"

Replies to this on the Advocacy list, please.
