I had tried all this. But I decided to do it all over again and follow
the links you mentioned. Unfurtunally it does not work. There seems to
be a small change in the licence but the major problem that no dvd gets
burned stays. The player still ejects after a few seconds and error
messages are displayed. I am sorry to say that I have run out of time to
get it working. I have installed the dvd-writer in some (populair?)
closed environment. Have not burned dvd's yet, so I can't tell you if it
works. I am hoping somewhat that a hardware defect turns up but on the
other hand I need to get bruning fast. There is some 60GB waiting to get
burned before I can take a vacation. After that I will try again and let
will you know when I succeed.

The dvd device is an atapi so no driver is needed (I contacted NEC), if
so, can I just dd data into the device driver and dd it out again? I
don't really need a Table of Contents on the disk I just want to backup
data. Have anyone ever tried this on a dvd/cd-writer?
