Look in my headers, and you'll see:

X-Operating-System: Linux 2.5.66

2.5.59 would compile (gcc 3.2), but hang at boot. 2.5.66 runs, and runs
nicely, if you do the following:

1. Install module-init-tools, modutils is relaced.

2. Check your make menuconfig carefully, tons of options have been
   shifted around, mostly in the direction of greater sensibility.
   Still, I failed to compile serial (8250) drivers, the console code,
   blegh.

3. ALSA is different than OSS, but working, now:

   # ln -s /proc/asound/dev /dev/snd

2.5 seems faster. Disk I/O definitely changed, the disk actually sounds
harsher now, as the scheduler seems to drive the disk faster. I have yet
to compile a new kernel on 2.5 again, to see how it compares.

For those of you wishing to see this for yourselves, here's my dmesg
