Actually, no, competition makes it harder to run a successful business. 
A monopoly can rake in way more money than multiple competitors combined
can ever dream of.  Business Dictionary: "successful" = "more money"

And we are about to be shoooshed onto the advocacy list.  Lets take this
over there.
