Here, here!!!! But do not put in a cheap cisco switch!!!! I have to
put up with Cisco 1900 series and they are junk also. 3com rocks and
the new Dell switches seem really nice.... I am not sure if there
are any that others would recommend for managed switches. Vlans are
awesome too. I have one switch on my desk and I can connect a
workstation on my desk to any subnet on the network just by assigning
the port to the particular vlan! It really rocks for both doing
setups on workstations for different segments and for doing
troubleshooting without having to go all over the place.

I just wish the Cisco 1900 supported industry standard trunking 802
instead of the proprietary Cisco protocol because I could have my
Linux box connect to multiple isolated segments through a single nic
card (I know - it is a wierd setup but often that happens on networks
- right??? It really does make sense here). I could even have the
Linux box do routing between the segments - hmmmm that would be cool
- a router with the access list capability of iptables!
