Greetings list,

When I tried to play a Celine Dione DVD on SuSE 9.1 Personal at home I got a
message about having a crippled Xine due to licensing restrictions. I did a
Google search and found what appeared to be a simple solution that replaced
the existing Xine with a version capable of displaying DVD's.

The instructions were to download (the latest) versions of
libxine1-1_rc5-0.pm.0.i686.rpm and libxine1-arts-1_rc5-0.pm.0.i686.rpm, then
use Yast to search for Xine. My Xine search only found one installed
package. After forcing the removal of the existing Xine (because Kaffeine is
listed as dependent on Xine) you simply rpm -ivh the new packages. After
doing this, I used Yast to verify that the install completed successfully.

When I inserted the DVD I got the Kaffeine media player 0.4 Xine-Error: No
Input Plug-in message. I know the DVD and the DVD-ROM are OK as I can play
the DVD using the Compaq DVD player when I boot to a legacy OS. I have
Googled on this exact error message but have not found anything. By
generalizing the search Kaffeine and Xine errors, I can find some postings,
but there is not enough information to learn a solution to my problem. One
suggestion was to change the SuSE DVD player while another suggested that a
related error had something to do with the DVD decoder.

This is my first foray into XWindows multi-media and any suggestions where
to go from here would be appreciated. Incidentally, I do not have access to
YOU from home since I have no Internet service.

Regards,

Bob
