Your best of then writing a service file;  use any of the ones
in /etc/rc.d/init.d as a template and modify it to run "fetchmail
-d ..."

Well,  less frequently than 10sec.  A single poll could take longer than
that if there are multiple messages or messages are large.  Also MTAs
usually batch deliveries so really more often than once every five
minutes isn't worth the trouble.

? You have an existing pop server you are putting mail into (via your
MTA)?  Otherwise Cyrus implements POP3.
