I am using RHEL 3.0 and there is no file like that. I also expected the same
behaviour.

Then what you suggest? My company uses Proxy + for Intranet Mail . I want to
implement similar functinality with Linux. I do no how proxy+ download mails
from remote pop server.

As per our company policy   I have to use pop server.
