As far as a handy rescue/recovery/backup/maintenance boot cd goes,
"Recovery Is Possible" (RIP) is a very good choice. It has a lot of
tools, and it can handle most F.S. formats. You can check it out at

Not sure if this will do _everything_ you need, but I'd recommend having
it around, just in case. P.S.- There is also a bootable-floppy version,
too.
