[KLUG Members] Open-source 3-D experience wanted

Is there anyone who has experience with an open-source 3-D
modelling/rendering package who would be willing to spend some
time showing me how it works?

For a research project I've been doing for the past few years,
I have used a commercial package to create and render a very
simple model -- about a hundred objects all based on geometric
primitives, and simple, flat surface textures. I'd like to
bit-rot-proof my work by moving it from the commercial package to
open-source software.

There are over 100 3-D modelling packages listed on freshmeat and
I don't know which one is right for me. Even if I did, I know I
don't have the time to teach myself Blender or whatever. And
because I'm never going to use splines or freeform whatsits or
fancy painting of surfaces, pretty much every tutorial out there
is not for me.

I just need the basics: show me how to edit objects, move the
camera, light the scene, render it, maybe some very simple
animation.

So if you or someone you know would be able to visit with me a few
times to help me out with choosing the software, installing it on
my Debian laptop (I'm _not_ an X wizard), converting my data
files, and editing a mostly-primitive model, drop me an email.
I'll pay for your time of course.

Thanks...
