Jim,

I highly recommend Komodo. It runs on Windows and Linux and supports a
plethora of open-source languages. I use it for PHP and Perl and RegEx
testing. I think the full list is Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl, and XSLT.
Its not an open-source app, but you can download a trial and use it
forever I believe. I am not sure if it times out or not. Its certainly
worth checking out, but might be overkill if you don't need a
professional tool.
