Had some same problems. Just reinstalled my laptop after a I did a Yast 
Online Update yesterday. It disabled my modem and after a reboot also my 
network.
I don't know what went wrong, but the fact YOU (Yast Online Update) did 
mention the upate of a few programs that I did not had installed should 
have made me wonder. I haven't reviewed the logfiles of the previous 
install yet so who knows what I will find there.

I did decided to do a reinstall because I quessed that was the quickest 
way to get me up and running again.
