I did install the alsa oss package. I cannot get sound to work. I built 
support for the intel8x0 right into the kernel. (not as a module) and 
when I run alsaconf I get:
modinfo: could not find module snd

In lsmod I have:
snd_mod:
 as the only item.

any ideas as to where I should head next to look to get this to work? 
Should I compile the intel8x0 as a module instead of in the kernel?
