Your KDE artsd is locking onto the ALSA sound device. Nothing else can
grab it.
Also, all ALSA devices are muted by default. Use alsamixer(1), KMix
never worked for me under Debian (without OSS-compat).
Also, the module/builtin doesn't matter. Debian scripts just don't
bother to test whether the driver is an LKM or not.
