Sounds to me like the KVM changes from IMPS/2 to ... what MSMouse?
My thoughts: does the KVM have a power switch/cord to turn off? If it is a
wheel mouse, try using a non-wheel mouse. You could try restarting gpm and
X using imps2 or ps2 [depending on what worked previously].
