[KLUG Members] help with cyrus imap on debian testing

I am trying to set up a test mail server with postfix/cyrus and I am
running into some off inconsistencies.

I have oreilly books for Postfix and imap and they have some
discrepancies. The Postfix book says to check the config file
/etc/cyrus.conf which just does not exist. There is an imapd.conf, but
it does not have the SERVICES text that I am supposed to be looking for.

So I stopped there and went with the imap book. I installed packages for:

|cyrus-common cyrus-admin cyrus-imapd

Once these were installed I changed the password for the cyrus user and
added it to the admin section in the imapd.conf file. I then went to
cyradm localhost and entered the username of cyrus and pass I changed to
and I get this error:
application-specific initialization failed: authentication failed

Now I am just trying to get a basic setup going and working to see how
it works before I start adding more complicated authenticating into the
mix.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong here and why I authenticate for the
cyradm? I have checked and pwcheck is running. (it is actually the only
imap daemon I can tell is running)

I cannot seem to find any imapd daemon to start/stop and I just feel
like I am missing a whole chapter here.

I also tried following the instructions from this article:
http://www.linuxworld.com/story/32735.htm

but I ran into the authentication problem once I hit the first try at
cyradm.

Thanks for any help pointing me in the right direction here.
