you can use no more than one web-cert per server. On Apache that is. 
Don't know for others.

I think you could generate your own certs just as easy. I don't see that 
many advantages in using a cert from one or another certifying company.  
If your customars do trust you, you can use any cert.

For email I should use pgp. Certainly if you only want to secure mail to 
and fro any known user.
