Ameritech/SBC don't support Linux, but floppyfw works fine as a firewall 
and PPPOE router.

(get the one with the pppoe package).

Note that if the line goes down (and it does) you'll need a windows 
computer to "pretend" with.  If you say you use Linux to Tech Support 
they won't even test the line.  It's happened more than once, so I don't 
think it was an exception.  "Pretend" with the Windows computer to Tech 
Support and they'll go through their process to discover "Hey, It's the 
line!"  When done, hook up the Linux computer again.

BTW, you can get a free dial-up account with the DSL account.  Get it. 
Use it as a backup when DSL goes down.
