I know you prefaced this with a "On UNIX systems", but just in case windows
clients are running the program and samba is involved in creating those
files, I would add that samba can add additional restrictions over and above
the Unix umask settings and directory permissions using the following
parameters:
create mask
directory mask
force create mode
force directory mode
inherit permissions
directory security mask
