Well, I neglected to mention the most important difficulty in this
"upgrade":  The 'updated' boot file/system doesn't work.
I had to use the rescue disk to get the system up at all.
Once I had the system running (command line mode only of course),
AND I had performed the chroot /mnt/sysimage
routine, I had at the / level what I expected except for several
files with bizarre names:
lilo.conf.anaconda
lilo.conf.anaconda???X???
lilo.conf.anaconda???X???@

Well, I had thought that the kind of problem Bruce Smith had encountered
long ago when he updated from RH9 to Fedora 1 would have been fixed in
Fedora 2.  Guess not.
