Yep. I upgraded my primary box at from from rh 3.0.3 to 4.2 to 5.0 to
6.0 to 6.1. to 6.2 to 7.0 to 7.1 to 7.2 to 8.0. And then *KABOOM*. No
upgrade from or to anything after 8.0 has "worked" (IMHO). Even if the
upgrade completes "OK" some previously operation service no suddenly
just silently fails to start, etc... or the configuration is totally
torqued.

Absolutely. Make /usr/local and /home separate volumes. Push as much
configuration up to the DSA as possible (sendmail, users, groups,
etc...) and just dump in over the top of /, /var, & /boot.
