I have a system I am setting up to play with to act as a home print/file
server and such. I am using the latest Debian Sarge RC and so my
packages are testing.

I installed the following packages:
ii samba 3.0.7-1 a LanManager-like file and printer
server fo
ii samba-common 3.0.7-1 Samba common files used by both the
server a
ii swat 3.0.7-1 Samba Web Administration Tool

I have worked with samba on woody which is an older 2.whatever release.
When I installed the packages for that the smb.conf file had a ton of
things in it and was well commented. This new 3.0 package has a conf
file with only the following in it:
[global]

# Do something sensible when Samba crashes: mail the admin a backtrace
   panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d
wins support = no

Am I missing something? Did samba 3.0 change so much or am I just dealin
with testing packages? Anyone else tried this out?

I also installed the swat package to try out and it's there, but the
service is not running and I can't connect to it. I was confused why the
samba packages seem to be such a mess. I am wondering if it's just me or
if I am just not doing things right for the new versions of everything.
My samba install on woody was pretty easy and with the great conf file I
managed to config it just by reading the comments on it.

Thanks

Rick
