I know what a problem this can be. I set up an account at an artists'
site known as VCL (http://us.vclart.net) back in 2000 with the idea that
I'd archive the sketches there which I'd been posting daily since 1997.
I was planning to simply FTP or otherwise transfer the lot (almost a
thousand images by that time) at once. Unfortunately, the system had
other ideas, and I got ten pieces posted using their online form before
deciding to hell with it:
