All I've got is a wild guess, but you're welcome to it. It's likely the
system is trying to save a temporary file somewhere other than where the
actual file is going. /tmp is an obvious canidate, but it could also be
something obscure like /home/user/.gnome/something (can you tell I use
KDE rather than gnome?). I'd take a good look at the permissions and
available drive space in /tmp and similar places.
