[KLUG Members] doc v swx when exporting as pdf

I've got a one-page document with two tables. When I create it in OO and
save as sxw, it is 7184 bytes. When I export it as a pdf it turns into a
monstrous  292 KB.

The same document created in Word in Windows is 50 KB(no surprise there)
but when I then open in in OO and export it as a pdf it turns out a nice
compact 4738 bytes.

The bloating seems to happen also if I create the file in OO but save it
as a doc file.

Does anyone know why this might be?
