 You should open a bug at OOo at attach the source and result files.  I
can make some guesses why the PDF is bigger (on not) based upon it's
origin,  but the saving to a doc file seems a weird place to get bloat.

Is the PDF in one instance readable with a text editor and not in the
other?  I wonder if in one case OOo is compressing the PDF contents
(supported since PDF 1.3?) and not in the other;  or if in one case it
is embedding fonts and not in the other.
