When do you get the error? When you save the .sxd, or export to .gif?

It probably depends on what changes you've made to the graphic, and what
you have in it. I just tried exporting a fresh new page to .gif, and got
a big, 100% transparent image file. It might depend on your version of
OOoDraw, but clearly, mine (v1.1.1) does support the export of blank
gifs.

I just ran a Google search and came up with a few options. The first of
these will probably be the most helpful:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=51431
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=5756&highlight=

The first suggests saving, then reopening the file. The third recommends
copying everything into a new drawing, and exporting that (a bit
extreme, in my opinion). The second just sort of references the first.
In any case, you might check to see if you have anything selected when
you do your export, and whether the "selection" checkbox is checked in
the export dialog. If it's checked, but grayed out, that could be
trouble, though I'm not sure how likely. If you want to export the whole
drawing as an image, that checkbox should be off.
