When exporting; the save works OK.

Looking at the refs from Andrew, two ideas seem to fit with me--using
'Save As' with a
previously saved file and complexities around what if anything is
selected.

The 'copy the image to a new file and then export' hack seems to work.

These bug discussions both seem to be closed. But they also have "could
not 
reproduce" comments. Hopefully it will be fixed (or instructions
clarified) in 2.0.
