This is similar to how the old Mac OS did things. You'd have to power
down the device to unplug it, but other than that, everything was
hotplugable. I'd imagine it still is, but last time I saw a macintosh
with SCSI it was in the pre-G3 days of the PowerPC architecture.
does the scanner have to be new? buying a supported model off eBay or
buying a refurbished model might prove to be less of a headache (or
just get a new one and plug it into your PowerBook...)
