It actually says 28 days.  I rounded it off to "a month".

Right, they say you have to check to make sure it's changed before you
update it.  And you have to do it once every 28 days, no matter what, to
keep your account from expiring.

Maybe they state "28 days" and don't enforce it quite that strictly?
