[KLUG Members] Running OOo as non-Admin on WinXPPro

Early this morning I tried to install OOo for one of my users who is on
WinXP Pro. He had asked me to install a desktop database program for him. I
proposed OOo Base. I got OOo to run fine when logged in to an Admin account.
But, I could not get OOo to start in his non-Admin account. When logged in
as a non-Admin, OOo generates some kind of C++ library error and won't
start.

Because this is a non-domain environment all my WinXP Pro users are assigned
non-Admin accounts for day to day use. That means that OOo has to be able to
run as a non-Admin user.

I could not find any help with this problem in the Winbloz installs section
of the official setup guide for OOo 2.X. I tried a couple of Google
searches, but could not find anything helpful.

Any help would be appreciated as this user is left with the impressions that
OOo is not ready for prime time.

I installed OOo as Admin. During the install I checked the box for all users
of this computer. I completed the install, rebooted, logged in as Admin,
started Writer, checked the previously registered box, clicked on finished
and Writer opened. I closed Writer and logged out as Admin. So far so good.

When I logged in as the non-Admin user OOo was on the Start menu. I clicked
on Writer. I was greeted with a curt message box that simply said that OOo
was unable to start. I had to log out as the non-Admin user, log in as
Admin, change the user's account type to Admin, and log back in as user with
Admin credentials before I could get past this error. With the user logged
in with Admin credentials, I got the OOo Welcome screen, clicked on already
registered and got Writer. I closed Writer, changed the account type back to
non-Admin and logged off.

I logged back on as the non-Admin user and clicked on Base. This time I got
the C++ runtime error. Clicking on Writer generated the same startup error.
The user was standing over my shoulder watching. He needed to use his
computer to prepare for a meeting. I had to apologize for the problems and
left with egg on my face.</end Install details>

Bob
