We haven't had any Compaqs in some time; they went through a phase where
they sucked (as all the OEMs do periodically).  Currently Morrison is
buying Dell D series.

I just look at the component list,  if everything is pretty generic I'm
usually comfortable.  I avoid bizarre high-end video cards and usually
prefer non-Centrino wireless.  Those are the only two things that seem
to have any compatibility problems these days.
