How do you receive your mail?  IMAP?  POP3?  ...  ?
If it's POP3, do you have it set to leave messages on the server?

Do you have "Hide Deleted Messages" turned on or off?
Do you manually "Expunge" your inbox?

And why does Mandrake come with such an old version of Evolution?
SuSE 10.0 comes with Evolution 2.4.0.  </sidetrack>
