It sounds like a charter problem, except I also have a charter.com POP3
account that I direct some messages to every day, and I don't ever
recall having that problem.  I'm also an Evolution user.

To fix the problems you currently have, like this one!  :-)

What's the fun of keeping your same old boring problems, when you can
exchange them for exciting new problems!  ;-)

In my experience, the newer distros have been getting better and better
over time, and come with fewer problems now.  If you're worried about
such things, install a new distro that has been out for a couple months,
which should have any major bugs fixed by then.

And there is the issue of "support".  IMO it's a really bad idea to run
a workstation on an old/unsupported distro which is no longer supplying
updates.  That's just asking to be cracked.  (I have no idea if MD 10.1
is currently supported, but I'll bet it won't be for much longer)
