[KLUG Members] Winmodems and Linux

Greetings KLUGgers.

I was delighted to see that the 4th of July party is on. Only down side is that I won't make it, as I will be packing all day.

Here's the question of the day: I know that Linux doesn't like/work with Win modems. Does it also kill them? When I boot my Windows partition and try to use my modem, it says it is disconnected (I think that's the word it used). I've tried re-installing it, to no avail. 

Could Linux have caused this?

Is there a way to fix it?

(My new domicile will be without broadband for several days yet and I would love to be able to use dial-up rather than have to drive to Panera.)
