Well, here's how "brand loyalty" changes. I spent all morning trying to 
figure out ways to install Mandriva. I even installed a scaled down version 
of Mandrake 10.1, but still couldn't see the CD in the external CDROM drive. 
Likewise Knoppix 3.4 and dyne:bolic 1.3 choked at the same point, starting 
up fine from the external CDROM drive and then deciding at some point that 
they couldn't see it.

No response from KLUG list and no response from LinuxQuestions posting. I 
finally thought, What if Fedora works? Clearly the problem is not with my 
hardware, because the Mandrake 10.1 disks continue to install OK. Well, 
glory be! Fedora Core 4 installed as sweet as you please. So now I'm a 
fedorian. Sic transit gloria mandrivi.
