If I remember correctly, a large portion of NTFS support is right in the 2.6
kernel. Captive is a separate project, but the folks that interpret the NTFS
binary format I thought had code in the kernel.

It is such a patchwork quilt - the makeup of Linux - kind of hard to keep track
of how every distro patches their's together, much more differences between
their release builds.
