what kind of modem do yo have? when i had dial-up a few years back, i had to buy and use an external 
hardware modem under suse. it worked flawlessly because it did not require any drivers whatsoever. 
if you have a winmodem then you might be sol.

not sure how because i don't remember but i think you would use kinternet to dial-out. your isp 
won't have anything for you.
