This doesn't seem to do it. I get this result (where eth1 is the
wireless interface):
[root at sonyc ~]# iwlist scanning
lo        Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

sit0      Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth1      Interface doesn't support scanning : Operation not supported
