I read up some on the Nokia 770 last year, around when it first came
out. The reviews were mixed. Some liked it, others thought it too slow,
or the 64MB memory somewhat limited. That may or may not be a problem. I
wound up getting a used Zire 72s for about half the price, and it's
proven a good choice to me. Short of it is, I haven't seen one of these
yet, let alone used one, but I do have some information.

The Nokia 770 uses an API/environment called Maemo. A lot of software
has been ported it, much of which you can find at http://www.maemo.org.
Note that there are TWO major versions of Maemo now: 1.1, and 2.0.
You'll want to make sure you match the version to your unit, because
there are incompatibilities between them. That said, there appears to be
a fair bit of software already ported over, including at least one
familiar application (Gnumeric Spreadsheet). Have a look at
http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006 for a list. It seems
to have links to other repositories at the bottom, too.
