[KLUG Members] chinese document

I'm trying to open  documents that have Chinese in them. One is .doc, the 
other is .mht. I've tried openoffice.org, Word, Firefox and IE without 
success. I tried to follow the instructions in Word for enabling Chinese 
support without success. I was unable to find anything in Openoffice.org 
help about installing or enabling Chinese language support.
Can anyone help me with this?
