Hello Everyone,
What I did was go to packman <http://packman.links2linux.org/>,
which had the latest version of what I wanted as a rpm file. I
downloaded and installed it via Yast and now we're happy campers in that
regard. And yes, the latest version of Xsane allows you to save a file
to pdf.
