Verifiy that your kernel version is 2.6.16.13_4 by typing in the konsole:

uname -r

Then click on the link below to download the driver.

http://madwifi.org/suse/10.1-i386/madwifi-kmp-default-0.9.0_2.6.16.13_4.1-1.2.i586.rpm

You can download this file to support atheros for suse 10.1 i386.
If you double click it from the file manager it will prompt you for your super user password. Type that in and when you are finished, open a konsole and type:

su

Enter your password and then type:

modprobe ath_pci

It will return you to a normal prompt if it went through.
Then you type:

depmod -a

Again it will return you to a normal prompt.

Then you will need to enter your YaST graphical configuration from the Suse menu. Under, Network Devices you will need to check that your atheros card is properly detected. When it start it will ask you if you want it to be User Configurable. You will choose this option. It will come up as <Atheros card name> --- Not Configured. With this card selected, you then click on:

Edit

Make sure DHCP is enabled and that you have No ssid No encryption settings set. Click finish the rest of the way through until the window is closed. You may safely close YaST when finished. Knetworkmanager will manage network cards for you. In fact you may have already noticed knetworkmanager prompting you that a new adapter has been found. When you right click on the knetwork manager it will let you know what access points are available. If you are prompted for security information you add your key or passphrase here. Otherwise, it will look for the nearest access point. If you have any questions let me know.
