Check and make sure your mic isn't muted in the mixer application
(usually right clicking on the speaker icon on your task bar gives you
the option to open your mixer or volume control).  This is usually the
issue.  Also, make sure that your output for the line out or headphone
jack isn't muted or turned down.  I would check these before doing the
compile or installing other drivers.
