Unlike Marshall, we don't pass our athletes just because they are.

For those that follow college football, you've probably heard of "Brad Banks."
The Iowa quarterback is the #1 rated passer in all of I-A. He was a redshirt at
UCF, learning from Mike Kruzek and playing behind Daunte Culpepper in his NCAA
record settign season.

He also flunked out after 2 semmesters, leading to his junior college career
before Iowa.

UCF pours on the academics on its athletes, and doesn't let up. We often take
"borderline" athletes, ones that Florida, FSU and Miami (FL) don't want to deal
with, and see if they are just slackers. Many times, we come away with student
athletes that just needs to apply themselves. We get a great athlete, they
learn their potential off-the-field.

It's exactly how we got Daunte Culpepper (1995-1998) and Alex Haynes
(2000-current). It's also how we've lost several, including Brad Banks.
