LWN released there 2005 time line today
( http://lwn.net/Articles/Timeline2005/ ) , and I couldn't help
spending my lunch time reading it. And it confirmed my feelings about
2005: "What a yawner!" I think C-SPAN frequently has more action. And
multimedia still sucks.

My favorites:

Feb: Sunbird 0.2 is released, first official release -
http://lwn.net/Articles/122800/

Disappointing that this was also the last release

Mar: BitMover pulls the free-beer version of BitKeeper -
http://lwn.net/Articles/130746/

Wasn't this a debacle! And in the end... a whole lot of noise about
nothing.

Aug: The whole M$, Mass, OASIS bru-ha-ha starts to spin up.

Oct: Minix 3 is announced - http://lwn.net/Articles/157157/

Oh, Boy! I can hardly contain my excitement; oh, wait.... that says
"Minix" not Linux... never mind.

Oct: WINE gets released! http://www.winehq.org/site/pr-09betarelease

Just when I was starting to think all those prophecies were just the
rantings of bald guys who licked too many 'shrooms. Uhm, guys...., it
still doesn't work worth crap.

Nov: The M$, Mass, OASIS thing drags on... But Microsoft proposes it's
Office file formats to ECMA as a standard.

Dec: Ruby On Rails 1.0 -

Is it just me, or is this [again] a whole lot of noise for nothing?
I've read articles about this and every time "they" seem very excited
and I'm left asking "So? What is new about that?"

Dec: The M$, Mass, OASIS thing drags on...
