Using the FTP method, I have seen speeds slightly in excess of 1 mB/s. It
doesn't appear that my NICs are proving much of a bottle neck. With the
FTP method, though, there is no isolation of my NIC from the performance
of every machine between it and the FTP source. For reasons of security, I
don't have an FTP server set up on any of my machines so I can't simply
check across the LAN via FTP. I'll try a few of the other tools to see
what numbers I come up with. I'm not certain which NIC I have in this
machine ... it's either a D-Link or a Linksys ... I have forgotten what
machine got which NIC but lsmod shows the 8139too module.

"Thou shalt not kill" is a moral absolute.
