As a long time Earthlink dialup customer, one thing they do different is
when using the PPP login, you have to prefix your userid with "ELN/" to
make it connect.  (just in case you weren't aware of that)

And I have no complaints about their dialup customer service.  Of course
I only remember calling it once to get the 800# service activated.  :-)

It did kinda suck when they blocked outgoing port 25 recently.  :-(
