[KLUG Members] HP web jetadmin on Linux

Hi all,

I installed the Linux web jetadmin on my departmental server. Mozilla
and Galeon don't play nicely with it, as they don't show the main menu
bar for setting any preferences. Netscape does show the menu I need
though. But now I've discovered another annoyance: I can list all the
jetdirect devices and printers on my network (all 180+ of them), but
double clicking on an item does nothing. That is, I can view a list, but
heck if I can configure any of them.

In Internet Exploder, it works just fine.

It appears that HP has released a web server program that runs on Linux,
but is only usable by the Microsoft web browser. Could this be true?

How are other admins on this list handling jetdirect configuration? What
I currently do is let the printer grab an address from dhcp to see what
vlan it is on, then manually assign an address to it from the static
range for that segment. I have to do this for the Novell printing system
we're using (NDPS), plus we keep track of all the printer IP's in a
spreadsheet. Is there a better way? Any suggestions?
