[KLUG Members] RE: Bandwidth and ISPs

I have had a few clients try to get Charter cable working at their
businesses. Their "success" rate was unacceptable...many are now moving to
DSL.

Like you mentioned (the radio ads) they seek more business, but one client
called them to connection (runs in the street) to their business. The CSR
said, "Sorry, we don't do business installations of Charter Pipeline."
Needless to say, the sales manager needed to take a few walks around the
building to cool off when he heard this.

I have had one business that has had intermittent service (at least one
outage per month spanning one to four days) and a several lack of
responsibility and communication to get the problems fixed. We even had a
meeting with all of the Charter "powers", lots of "we are to blame" but
still no change in service. They were actually to get us a plan of action a
month ago in case of future outages...never happened.

Anyway, I am stuck with them (vs dialup) for now. Rates are going up; at
least they have someone answering the phone until midnight. -;

A co-worker of mine wants to get cable TV and internet. He lives in a
subdivision in Charter's area. Neighbors on both sides of his house
have Charter (one with internet). He lives a normal distance from the
road. No problem? Well . . . he's been trying for over FOUR MONTHS to
get connected and Charter will not return his inquiries! He's tried
calling them, filling out the connection form online, and doing this
repeatably! I keep hearing the Charter ads on the radio running
specials for free installation, etc. So what's the deal? Why advertise
if they don't want any more business? Weird . . .
